ATS98 update: new string

Just strung ATS 98 with Gamma syngut 17 (blue/purple) at 53lbs. I think it looks great, the weight is now 340, reasonable, and the swingweight is better than before with the 16g hybrid which weight 345(?).

The racquet has leather overgrip (8-10g), overgrip (6g), and lead+silicone(7g). Post of a video post string job in metro tennis store and boy, do I hit the ball like Chris Evert topspin.

In the store tried hitting with Bab Pure Aero 300g-crisp and easy, Head prototype-heavy, Vcore 98-crisp and spinny. Previously tried RF97-very heavy.

Kit Clash

So many kit clash now. Poland should have worn all whites or red and France to adjust accordingly to avoid kit clash (including shorts and socks). Either all dark or all light.

Racquet balance

So, I had time to balance and weight my racquet, here is the result:

The racquets that I feel heavy are PS97 and A98 however they are not much different from T100, it might be the box beam that made them heavy or the slightly smaller head size. All of the racquets below have leather grip and overgrip on. I just cant quite figure the A98 weight where I had manage to add 20 grams (leather grip-9g, overgrip-6g, lead-2.5g, silicon-3g).

Weekend update 3rd week Dec: T100, UP, A98

Played twice this weekend on Friday and Sunday for doubles games.

On Friday played 3 sets. First two sets with T100-2 with scores 6-7 (Dj(p) vs Hr-Dd) and 7-5 (Kw(p) vs Ad-Dd) then last one with UP 4-5 (Kw(p) vs Ad-Dd). Using T100 was so easy and opt for UP even though it can give a work out. Need to swing with UP cant just block the ball.

On Sunday, Xmas day, played 3 sets also with T100-1 and A98. 1st set with A98 loss 4-6 (Mk(p) vs Kk-Iw), 2nd set with T100-1 with 6-4 (Mk(p) vs Kk-Ny), and then 3rd set with A98 loss 5-6 (Du(p) vs Mk-Ny).  On the last set more because many errors from us.

Using the A98 when condition was wet was great but then when the gets dryer it gets uncontrollable with A98. Afterward I cut the string on A98 and the hybrid string had no tension left.

Racquet balance theory

TW listed the balance as strung but after string only.

On the other hand, almost all of my racquet with leather grip (8-10g) and overgrip (6g) and string (15-20g) thus the balance would close to unstrung spec.

Just my theory.

My prefer spec would be then headsize 95-100 sqinch, weight 340g with 310mm balance or max 315mm. Swingweight does not change much from TW figure because it is measured from the mid handle area.

Weekend update Dec 3rd week: T100

This week is all T100. Played on Friday and Sunday for  a total of 6 sets doubles.

On Friday, playing 1st set with beg/inter players and won 7-1, second set partner was on the phone while playing, lost 1-7 (Ar(p) vs Ad-Dd). Last set was tight 7-6 after trailing 6-4 (Dj(p) vs Ad-Dd). All was using T100-2. Brought UP but the ball was not up for it.

On Sunday, playing 1st set won 6-3 (Ny(p) vs Iw-Dn), then 6-5 (golden point) after several deuces (Rh(p) vs Hr-Ms), then last one 6-1 (Hs(p) vs Hm-Ms). Use T100-1 for all sets and felt nice, several long balls but good control, power, and spin.

T100 is a good fit for 16 gauge just need a bit of straightening after shots.

Weekend Dec 2nd week: WUP & ILTL quarter final: ATS 98

So, we got our target to be in the big 8. We play against #3 which we met before losing straight sets last Wednesday. We played in debros club court in Prisma, a good outdoor court.

We played well leading 4-2 before losing the match 4-8. Our opponents just could not rally with us and the senior player started playing drop shots and moonball. He even try underarm serve but I was able to get it and the point.

I played using ATS 98 after trying the T100-1 but the string moved too much.

Overall played well, might have an ace.

Before went to the court, went to Decathlon and the price for leather grip just went up again to IDR 210k from before at first 120k then 150k. The price hike was crazy despite the lower quality.

On Friday played with the usual bunch. I brought UP, RadOS, and T100-2. Warming up with RadOS felt soft, tried play with it against players from session before us and changed to UP for more control and heft, won 7-3. Played another 2 sets with UP, won 7-3 but we were stronger. Then played more serious on the last set but with time due settled at 4-3. Overall, despite the tight 18x19 on RadOS the string moved and soft thus the control was quite off. The UP is such a control racquet, seriously can control the depth and heft of the ball playing against weak and strong intermediate.

Prince TT ATS 100 310 comparison with predecessor

Lets compare the new TT ATS 100 310g with its predecessor the 2019 version (no ATS):

 * the specs from TW website

Interestingly the differences are only on the RA from 65 to 62 and swing weight from 322 to 323. The resulting TW review score decrease from 87 to 84. It is now less stiff but more powerful.

Tennisnerd prefer ATS 98 over this one while Tennis-euphoria prefer the new 100-310.

WC 2022

Watched some WC games on TV, notice the boots, the red one shines and it is by Puma. Nikes and Adidas' not as noticeable. Pic: a cool strike by Giroud.

Weekend update Dec 1st: T100 and SOT; racquet balance

Played only one on Friday for 3 double sets: 7-2, 7-5, 4-6. The T100-2 had loose string while SOT had old string.

First set with SOT against a beginner. Second set trailing 1-3 then change to T100-2. Last set against string opponents, set not completed at 9 pm with 4-6 score. Tough using old balls and loose string.

SOT string has been cut now. I was swinging some racquets on the weekend and noticed a parameter I had not looking at before which is the balance. I wonder how my T100 swing easier than ATS 98 (as heavy as PS97). So lo and behold, T100 balance is 31.0 cm while ATS 98 is 31.5 cm, Pro Staff 97 is 31.5 cm, Rad OS is 32.0 cm, CX 200 tour is 31.0 cm, Ultra Tour/Pro is 31.0 cm, and MG Rad MP is 32.5 cm. The 5mm difference is pretty big. So this is one of the parameter I should keep an eye on when trying it out racquet.

The TW strung measurement is significant with PS97 at >330mm or 4 HL while CX 200 Tour at 319mm or 7 HL; no wonder I can lead them up.
