watching a magician at play

finally got a chance to see Brian Blade at play. my seat was next to his kit, cant get any better than that. at that night, Kenny Werner called him a magician, which is true. give him any bad song and he would magicially turn it into a beautiful piece. other musicians have compared him to painter, also true because (according to me) he fills the song with his colors; like putting blue sky background to a b&w photo. we had a quick chat after the show, and he mentioned, ".. but Boston feels like home to you." and i said, "yeah, it feels like home." i am truly gracious for that moment.
